PoP Balance Sheet – December 2012

Welcome to our December 2012 Balance Sheet!

We use the structure of a monthly income statement and balance sheet in tandem to make sure we are keeping our expenses low and planting our pennies wisely. If you’re not already tracking your finances using these two methods, go to mint.com and get started today!

Progress is continuing pretty steadily in terms of our net worth.  And since the stock market didn’t crash in anticipation of a fiscal cliff as I was hoping fearing, we still managed some decent balance sheet growth even though December’s income didn’t blow it up the way November’s did.

  • Our total assets went up ~$9.2K, and a lot of that came from growth in the 401Ks.
  • Our total liabilities dropped by ~$3.9K, I like it when I see bigger drops in the liabilities, but at least we’re making progress.
  • Net worth rose by about $13.1K this month
  • Total net worth as of the end of December is $417.3K.  Mr. PoP and I are now wondering – are we going to hit $500K in 2013?

And for the details…

Why do we look at our assets and liabilities split up this way? For us, it’s an easy way to look across all the different categories of assets and see which ones we have equity in, and how much equity. If the Assets bar is taller than the Liabilities bar, that’s equity in that asset class.
